CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Established in 1956, Clark County School District is the fifth largest school district in the country, educating almost 75 percent of all students in Nevada with more than 320,000 students enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade. CCSD offers a range of programs for the special needs of their students. In addition to core curriculum, CCSD offers magnet schools and programs, various accelerated and Advance Placement programs and special education services.

The district encompasses 357 schools and approximately 8,000 square miles in southern Nevada and is a minority majority student district. With more than 40,000 employees, CCSD is also the largest employer in the state. CCSD is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of seven members who represent different geographic regions within the county. The mission of the board is to ensure “all students progress in school and graduate prepared to succeed and contribute in a global diverse society”. The district offers nationally recognized Magnet Schools and Career & Technical Academies as well as an online secondary school (Nevada Learning Academy) and several International Baccalaureate programs available to elementary, middle and high school students.

Services offered by the district also include a school police department, adult education courses, special education, and partnerships with higher education institutions and community organizations such as Vegas PBS and the Public Education Foundation. As the largest school district in Nevada, CCSD plays a pivotal role in ensuring the future success, growth and advancement of the state.

CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT IMMUNIZATION RECORD

NRS 392.435 Immunization of pupils: Certificate prerequisite to enrollment; conditional enrollment; effect of failure to immunize; report to Health Division; inclusion of certificate in pupil’s record. Unless excused because of religious belief or medical condition, a child may not be enrolled in a public school within Nevada unless the child has been immunized and has received the proper boosters for that immunization or is complying with the schedules established pursuant to NRS 439.550. For detailed information concerning immunization requirements for children attending CCSD schools, visit ccsd.net/ccsd/content/media-files/immunization-requirements.pdf. For assistance with obtaining immunizations, parents may contact the Southern Nevada Health District at 702.759.0852.

Nevada law requires that children in kindergarten through grade 12 are current with their immunizations before they are allowed to enter school. Parents/guardians are to bring immunization records with them to school when they register their child.

  • A child will not be allowed to attend school without documentation of immunizations. Exceptions are permitted for "religious objections," which requires a letter from the parent or guardian stating the religious objection, or for a medical condition, which requires a letter from a health care provider.
  • For the new school year, students must be up to date with all required immunizations. Students entering 7th
grade also must have the recently-mandated Tdap vaccine which protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, or whooping cough.
  • Students new to Nevada are required to have immunizations for hepatitis A and B, and varicella (chicken pox). SECONDARY EDUCATION

University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Since its first classes were held on campus in 1957, UNLV has transformed itself from a small branch college into a thriving urban research institution. Along the way, our urban university has become an indispensable resource in one of the country's fastest-growing and most enterprising cities. UNLV’s diverse faculty, students, staff, and alumni promote community well- being and individual achievement through education, research, scholarship, creative activities, and clinical services. We stimulate economic development and diversification, foster a climate of innovation, promote health, and enrich the cultural vitality of the communities that we serve.

We will evaluate our success as a leading research university by our progress on these key measures:

Impact of our research, scholarship, and creative activities.

Student achievement of learning outcomes.

Placement into preferred employment or post-graduate educationalopportunities.

Student, faculty, and staff diversity, including maintaining UNLV’s Minority Serving Institution (MSI) status and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status.

Intellectual activity, patents, and entrepreneurial activity fostered by UNLV.

Quality and impact of our clinical services.

Alignment of our physical infrastructure and organizational effectiveness with our Top Tier mission.

A deeper engagement of UNLV with Las Vegas and our region to ensure ongoing alignment with our diverse community’s needs and interests.

Carnegie Classification criteria (research expenditures; doctoral degrees granted per year; number of non-faculty research staff, such as postdocs; and Carnegie Community Engagement status).
