Registering Your Vehicle
Students and active duty personnel
(including dependents) do not need t o
register their vehicles or acquire a n e w
license in Nevada as long as the individual
is not employed in the State of Nevada.
Vehicles must b e currently registered with
t h e h o m e s t a t e o f v alid i n s u r a n c e a n d
d r i v e r ' s l i c e n s e .
Out-of-state drivers and vehicle registrations
can b e used by new residents for up t o
30 days or before the prior items expire,
whichever comes first. At any time during
that 30 days, they may b e turned in to t h e
DMV for Nevada documents. Nevada l a w
requires motorists to notify DMV of a change
of address within 30 days of the move.
Keeping your address current is important so
they can s e n d renewal notices i n t h e mail.
New Nevada Vehicle Registration
Documents needed to register are the originals of:
- Proof of identity (e.g., driver's license or ID)
- Most recent registration
- O u t o f S t a t e P l a t e s
Nevada emissions Vehicle Inspection report (smog check)

N e v a d a P r o o f o f I n s u r a n c e
- Nevada Vehicle inspection certificate (VIN Check)
- Certificate of Title if ownership is changing. If not
changing ownership, the owner has the option of retaining
the out-of-state title.
