Southern Highlands

Course Review #1
Southern Highlands Golf Club delivers a more traditional private golf experience, built around a Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. design that emphasizes structure, rhythm, and shot discipline. Located in the southern part of the valley, the course uses wide corridors and strategic bunkering to create a layout that is both playable and demanding.
The course flows naturally, with each hole building on the previous one rather than competing for attention. Tee shots are generally forgiving in width, but placement matters—angles into the greens can shift dramatically depending on positioning. This creates a course that is approachable for mid-level players while still offering complexity for more experienced golfers.
Greens are the defining feature. They are large but segmented, often requiring players to think in terms of zones rather than pins. Missing in the wrong section can turn a straightforward approach into a difficult two-putt. Bunkering is used more for visual framing and strategic influence than intimidation, which keeps the course from feeling overly punitive.
Conditions are consistently strong, with an emphasis on smooth greens and well-maintained fairways rather than overly firm or fast setups. The course plays well year-round, with minimal seasonal variation compared to some higher-elevation layouts.
Southern Highlands appeals to players who prefer a classic private club atmosphere—structured, reliable, and focused on the fundamentals of the game. It’s less about spectacle and more about repeatable, thoughtful golf.
